While we're still hard at work pushing Flock 2 from beta towards release, we are taking a moment to provide you with Flock 1.2.5.

Flock puts you at the center of the action, with all your tools and services orbiting around you.  It's a lot of work to string all these things together, and occasionally things break.  This has been the case with Twitter and Facebook in recent days, as they have both changed elements of their back-end (Facebook with a new design, Twitter with their feeds).  You may have noticed issues posting your status to Facebook from the People Sidebar or getting recent friend updates from Twitter in the sidebar.  These have been fixed in Flock 1.2.5, which is available now from http://www.flock.com. Auto-updates will go out next week.

Enjoy, and please continue to provide the great and timely feedback that allows us to keep Flock in tip top shape!

Hey Evan, that's great news, thanks!
One question though: is there any further word on the progress of Myspace and Last.fm integration? Both of those would be just fantastic. :)

By the way a bug for Flock 2 b 2 : when you click on the green + button the browser page becomes tiny smaller an you can onle seethe 3 buttons X - + red orange green upper left.

This is a great browser.Keep up the good work.I just installed it today and am impressed.I'll be telling everyone I know about it.

Hi Evan

I thought that there will be no updates or fixes for the 1.x Flock series, as Flock 2 Beta is available now. This update is useful for people still using Flock 1.x.

I now like to use Flock 2 Beta only and hope to see the non Beta, that is the stable Flock 2 soon.

Regards

Keeping on top of all the constant changes must in itself be rather taxing on your time, I wonder how you can find more of it, time, in order to write about it all. Evan, Mr Ambassador, a bow your way and to the Flock team. The integrity of the integration is integral to successful Flocking, I suppose, and somebody's got to do it. Again, kudos to y'all.

@angilinajetli: Mozilla has take a similar approach with regards to releasing security updates to older versions of Firefox. For instance, Firefox 2 will get security/stability updates until mid-December 2008, despite the fact that Firefox 3 has been officially released. I recall that people were complaining about the performance of either Flock 1.5 or 2.0 and so stayed with a previous version.

In the same vein, I presume the majority of Flock development is focused on Flock 2.0, with updates to Flock 1.2 occurring for security updates or if a service integration breaks (this update, for instance).

Even after Flock 2.0 is released, some people will still use 1.2.x, and they should remain protected from security exploits for at least a little while.

As usual, ChrisVance is correct. :)

these new patches do little for the problem of forcing me from using hotmail. any sidebar adds for hotmail would be a great addition.

Yes let me echo that last sentiment, I would love you to integrate my hotmail account. my live spaces and other microsoft apps. It's the one big thing that is missing. Also allow me to use your inbuilt photo uploader in LiveJournal (scapbook) because they don't have one and yours is brill.

flock is coming a long and a very nice way . the combinations of the social networking capabilities is what drives flock . i think its a future concept and this will get very big in the months ahead . forget chrome - a thankfull flock linuxuser :-))

> forget chrome
I like Flock, but I would not say so... Chrome beta is "many times faster" than the rivals at running JavaScript, the programming language that powers Google Docs, Gmail, and many other Web applications.

I agree with the above poster, I love flock but chrome is pretty fast.

That's just urban legend. People keep spreading the story of "super fast chrome" but it's not that fast. It's not much faster than Flock2 beta or Fx3.0 and definitely not faster than Fx3.1 betas. Both engines are pretty fast now - Gecko and Webkit. Both are being developed nicely and Flock is just a perfect browser with its social attitude and Gecko engine inside.

Hey Evan, you did a fantastik job here with the Flock Browser. I am interested in learning how do u created such a browser. If you ever need a team player, don't hesitate to count me in with you. Waiting patiently to try beta Flock 2. I love how you migrate all of the social web media into the browser, it is so neat. Congratulate you for that, keep up the extraordinary work.

It is definitely a great browser. Keep up the great work!

ok!!!

I started using flock today. Overall I really like it--but I did run into a problem with the facebook sidebar. I began by importing everything from my firefox installation. When I did that the sidebar would never log in to facebook correctly and I would never see my list of friend. After trying a few things, I uninstalled and then reinstalled, but didn't import anything. Then when I set up facebook everything worked correctly. Another piece of information is that on firefox I use the facebook addon that also creates a sidebar of friends. I'm wondering if there is some interaction between the settings for that sidebar from the import that is causing the problem.

Any fixes yet for preventing the browser from crashing when opening a pdf document? I'm currently using v2.oB, same thing with the previous version

FACEBOOK DOESN'T WORK. MESSAGE READS" POLICY DOES NOT ALLOW THIS PAGE TO BE DISPLAYED". AAAGH.WHAT NOW?EVEN MY GMAIL JUST JUST SHOWS ME MY MAIL FRONTPAGE.

Sorry to hear about your problems -- if you can be more specific folks might be able to help you fix them.

What page are you trying to access when you get the policy message? Which version of Flock are you using, and what OS do you have?

You do need to log into Gmail every once in a while, even if you click the "Remember me on this computer" checkbox when logging in. I occasionally have to re-login when using Gmail through Firefox as well.

Had the same problem with Facebook. Must have been some glitch, because it did work the second time I tried it.

I just switched over to Flock per my classmate's suggestion. I really like it but I am having issues with Facebook on the People Sidebar. Namely it never recognizes that I sign in. I un-installed and then re-installed but the problem still persists. I just downloaded it last night, so it is definitely the current edition and have done the "force updates" thing a couple of times. Any suggestions?

Great job guys.I switched back to flock on my ubuntu box!!

What is the ETA on Flock 2? I'm still swapping between FF and Flock for various reason, but don't want to use the Beta. When 2.0 is released, I will probably dump FF for good.

Thanks for the kind words everyone!

@Chris Gennaula: Which version of Flock did you experience these issues on?

@Anthony Bynoe: Do you have the latest version of Acrobat Reader? I experienced these crashes as well until I updated...all's fine now.

@E-Dunc: What version of Flock are you using? All Facebook issues should be fixed in Flock 1.2.6.

@John Pash: Flock 2.0 is very near. I can't promise an exact date, but definitely in the next month.

It says 1.2.6 ... I've re-installed 3 times now. All the other aspects work but for whatever reason Facebook does not. My YouTube account works fine in the People Sidebar so whatever that means. Thanks for the help.

E-Dunc, open the Accounts and Services sidebar, find the Facebook entry, click Log Out and then Forget Account. Force Services Updates, restart the browser, and try logging into Facebook again. Flock may remember it this time.

I finally got it to work! The Force Updates thing didn't work, but I un-installed again and this time did a thorough search of my computer and found some Flock preference files that I missed the other times I un-installed. When I re-installed, it asked me if I wanted to import information from Safari or Firefox and I said no. This time, Facebook started right up so I guess it had something to do with transferring bookmarks and such from Firefox. Thanks for your help though, and I love Flock.

What you found was your profile information (located here), which you deleted. Something in your old profile was probably causing a problem. Glad to hear things are working for you now.

Am I missing something or is there no Back button on the browser (version 1.2.6)?

There should be a back button, attached to the forward button, immediately under the File menu. If you don't see them, right-click in the top of the browser, click Customize, and look for them in there. Drag them into the browser interface if you find them.

HEY GUY'S WHAT IS GOING ON. UPDATE TO LATEST VERSION.
CAN NOT GET MY MAIL FROM ANY ADDRESS WITH FLOCK.
ALSO LIKE EVERY HAS SLOWED DOWN, AND CAN NOT DISPLAY PAGE.

When is Flock gonna use Firefox 3.1's Gecko 1.9.1 engine? It's so much faster and more standards compliant than Firefox 3.0's Gecko 1.9.0.x engine. Acid3 is now at 89/100. Mozilla has frozen the code for Firefox 3.1 beta 1 and it will be out soon.

Looks good overall, thanks for the work and updates!

Great to see these new Flock updates. Compatibility with some popular sites though would be nice. Google chrome is extremely fast but for now Flock has my attention.

@Brian: What popular sites are not compatible with Flock?

Since Flock and Firefox are based on the same page rendering code, do you see the same problem on those sites when using Firefox?

I do wonder about all these browsers Ive downloaded. Will it effect the overall system at all? I do enjoy the benefits of Flock. I prefer Firefox over all though with the developers plug ins thats a major plus.

Thanks for the work and updates!

Thanks for all your hardwork

Merry Christmas Flock i love you
