It is my sincere pleasure to announce the release of Flock version 1.0. The Social Web Browser is now available to download from www.flock.com. This event marks a significant milestone for our company. When I arrived at Flock one year ago, the primary goal I set for the company was to transform us from a great idea company into a world-class innovation and execution company. Since that time, the tremendous work from all across Flock’s expanding organization has demonstrated this team’s appetite and capability to do exactly that: we upgraded the underlying technology platform for Flock with version 0.8 in Q1 of this year, we enhanced significantly the dependability, discoverability and feature integration with version 0.9 in Q2, we released over two hundred bug fixes and feature enhancements with version 0.9.1 in Q3, and today we are launching the full release of Flock 1.0, with the integration of “people in the browser”, available as a free download for Mac, PC and Linux.
The 1.0 Social Web Browser incorporates all your friends across numerous popular social services (Facebook, Flickr, YouTube and Twitter). We hear from our 1.0 beta users every day that this product has changed the way they are engaging with and experiencing the Web. The most frequently used adjective describing this version of Flock is ‘addictive’. We take that as a real compliment, and a strong vote that Flock is onto something very special.
Flock 1.0 is also a platform, and you will see an expansion of the social and media services with which Flock is integrated early in the New Year, along with the formal release of our 1.0 API for developers and third parties around the world to leverage, add services and further contribute to Flock’s capabilities.
With your help, and the millions of new users we plan to serve in the year ahead, we will continue to be champions of open-standards, and strive to continually deliver unique and meaningful experiences that place the user at the center of everything, and are made possible only from within the browser. We’re incredibly excited by the launch of Flock 1.0. The Flock team is both grateful and enormously proud of the overwhelmingly positive response to our 1.0 release, and I want to personally thank all of the passionate community members and Flock users who have emailed enthusiastic notes of encouragement. Your tremendous feedback fuels our desire to push the boundaries of browser innovation. We have great ambitions to continually improve and evolve Flock, and hope that we can continue to count on your passionate engagement to help us guide our course.
I welcome your comments and feedback – either here or via email (shawn at flock.com).
Thanks,
Shawn

Congratulations for the release!
Congratulations on Flock 1.0! I've been using Flock on-and-off and so far, I like what I'm seeing in 1.0. Keep it up!
Congratulations on hitting 1.0! I've recently made the change from Firefox to Flock and I can't see going back. I get what I love from Firefox with the beauty of the social web and as a web developer the clipboard is a definite favorite! Keep up the good work!
Check out my review of my switch from Firefox to Flock. http://lokilistens.wordpress.com/2007/11/02/so-long-mozilla/
Flock is highly developed from Firefox especially search area. I like that.
Thanks for all the kind words, folks!
Jack: Great review, love the format. :)
Askan: Nice to hear about our search...it often gets ignored in the face of larger features like the Mediabar and People sidebar.

i just change from firefox into flock its awsome. one bad comment thought can have more theme?
Congratulations!
But in the list of services (Facebook, Flickr, YouTube and Twitter)
I don't see del.icio.us or magnolia...
So sad :(
Congratulations for 1.0! I've used Flock since 0.5 and collaborated more or less actively with bug reports and es-ES l10n. I've written a blog post about it in
http://dukebody.blogsome.com/2007/11/02/flock-10-is-out/ ,
but it's localized :-P
I've never found a closer community like the Flockstars one. You're always asking us for opinion and ideas, you're hanging in the IRC channel to chat with us, you even send t-shirts to us! You really know how to involve the community in development! This is what I appreciate the most from Flock. Thank you very much!
I'm looking forward to see the localized version of 1.0 and a localized web page :-D.

Congratulations on your Flock 1.0 release. Downloading it now.
Bregor: That's weird indeed, because I see them in the Accounts & services. Just look under the folder "Online Favorites".
Awesome! Thank you, well done.
Awesome stuff !! have been using Flock for more than a year now .... and have simply got addicted to it now .... Read my Blog post about Flock.. .IMHO it should not be called Browser .... its more than a Browser ...Its Flock !!
Flock rocks. I've been using it on-and-off for a year now. And I can guarantee you that there was a major leap. Now I'm off to get 1.0, as I'm still using .9.
Congrats!
Wow!!! I'm so happy! Can't imagine myself blogging without Flock anymore. Good job, guys, and keep up the good work. : )
Congrats! Been following flock since.. eh.. first public beta? something like that. 0.7 (if I remember correctly) hit the "favorite browser" and 0.9 managed default browser.. 1.0 earns "recommend this to anyone you meet" -place :)
I thank you for giving me my new favorite browser - FLOCK. :).
Keep up your excellent work.
Warmest regards :)
I first tried Flock in very early beta. Version 1.0 looks incredible. One thing I feel like I need to comment on though, is the noticeable lack of integration of any sites related to Google, especially Google Reader for managing RSS feeds. Is there any plan to add support for any Google sites in the future?
I like the Flock very much and I see great potential in the aggregation of social media sites. As a futurist speaking about the future of social media and it's implications for business and users, I use many social networking sites and find it a real pain to keep track of who is in which site. Being able to access these from within one browser is great. My question for you is this. (And it's a big one multi-part one too!) Anyplans to integrate Second Life, iPhone and the Google OpenSocial protocol into Flock?
@Dell and mnikkel: We will certainly be integrating more services in the coming months. Google Opensocial is definitely exciting, and we will be investigating it. I can't make any promises about what we'll be integrating, but we listen to your suggestions so feel free to tell us what you'd like to see integrated on our suggestions forum.
Additionally, Flock is as extensible as Firefox and we have some excellent developer documentation at developer.flock.com. Any developers who are interested in creating things for Flock are welcome to email me...we'd be more than happy to work with you!

great job getting this out there guys, flock 1.0 is a superior browser!
Up to now, the feeling of experience tells good news for me, I like Flock. And wrote about my feeling of Flock as a new user(http://eyecn.blogspot.com/2007/11/on-flock.html)
Hey guys,
I downloaded the Browser today... looks very exciting
to manage multiple web 2.0 sites with nice
User Interface, as far as I can see.
I think i'm gonna like it a lot :)
All the best!
im using Flock since a few months in ubuntu, and its really makes easy blogging and uploading photos in Flickr. Also the feed reader is very nice.
I have just one question, im using version 0.9.0.2 in gutsy gibbon and the option "check for updates" is desactivated.
is any option to autoupdate Flock, or i have to download the new version and install all again?
hi,
I've just downloaded flock and now I'm busy exploring it's features. It's good that you guys came up with this kind of all-in-one browser. Congratulations and make Flock more exciting
Flock has completely replaced Firefox as my browser of choice in only a single evening. Its social Web 2.0ey features are extremely well-designed and well-implemented, and its ease of transition away from Firefox was truly staggering. I'm telling everyone I know to switch. I can't wait to see what you guys do next. Seriously, I'm thrilled this exists. Hell of a 1.0 release! :)
Hey Jon (and everyone else),
Thanks again for the kind words...I make sure the entire staff sees them and it's great motivation, to know we're making people happy. We worked extremely hard on this release and I'm glad it shows. We're only getting started, so expect this level of quality from now on.
Jon, shoot me an email at evan at flock dot com and I'll get you some stuff to help promote Flock to everyone you know. :)

Just downloaded Flock, having previously used Firefox for years. My overall first impression,is cool.It takes a lot to drag me away from the Fox,but with Flock's nice color scheme, and overall design,I'm well impressed.
I've started using the Flock 1.0 browser, and so far, I like it. However, I do notice that it restricts the user to two simultaneous downloads. I would like to increase that number to six. I was able to do it in Firefox with a configuration change. Does anyone know how to make the same configuration change in Flock? Thanks for any help!
I really love flock so far, I'm still discovering a lot of it's features. The only thing I'd truly desire to change is that on the media bar it only shows like 10 of my most recently added youtube favorites. I'd like it much better if instead it would have "all" of my youtube favorite on somewhat of a left to right thing... or maybe I just did something wrong and it does do that, who know's.
Congratulations!....
I wanna be a Flockstar!...
I've been using Flock as my default browser for a week now and I really like it. Flock 1.0 is very impressive and its features are cool. I just have one suggestion: It would be great if the Photo Uploader has a Bulk Upload feature like Photobucket and Flickr.
Am I a Flockstar now? ;)
Cheers!
Hi. I just read about Flock on site that compared it with Firefox 3.0 beta and I decided to download it cos I use Firefox 2.0.0.9 which I feel is better than IE7. Seeing the memory utility also helped. I am not into the social networks thingy and most of my browsing is work related and have online meetings e.g. gotomeeting etc. Can Flock 1.0 handle all this better than Firefox. IE7 is disappointing with all the things I get to do and so I opted for Firefox. Is there also a Google toolbar for Flock. It works better for me than Yahoo. Thanks. Awaiting a response.
Flock is a truely revealing experience. It is something I would like to compare with my first impression when I installed Mosaic back in 1992/93 and the graphical internet reached my Mac! I am very impressed and excited - so I wrote already an enthusiastic article on my personal blog; with Flock of course. I just would like to say, this really is a great piece of software and an incredible usability improvement for interacting with the web2.0!
i am glad to tell you that my XUL app is working perfectly with flock.

I downloaded Flock just today and I am so impressed. This is such a wonderful thing, I even don't have words for it. This is surely my browser number 1 now :)
Hi guys--
I've been following Flock since it was at 0.5, and liked it a lot--except, in those days, there was no way to install the thing in Linux in such a way as to have a nifty icon either on the desktop or in the menus. I could only get it running from a Terminal window, which was kind of a drag.
Last night I downloaded, installed Flock 1.0, and went all "ooooh!" Particularly since the Linux install instructions include a note about how to get an icon for the desktop. Excellent! Then imagine my delight that I could click/drag that icon up into the Ubuntu Linux menu bar, and into the menu editor. No fiddly coding, no command line, just drag and drop goodness! Huzzah!
And, since the last time I saw Flock was when it was at 0.5, imagine my amazement to see the finished, awfully shiny product. It's brilliant! Well done. Can't wait to see where you take it from here.
Congratulations! I've been really impressed with Flock so far, hope to see even more great improvements in the coming months!
I've been using Flock for quite sometime now and I really love it. Its "My World" that serves as homepage is very neat for storing and organizing feeds. Plus, I have been able to install some of my favorite Firefox extension. The Media Bar and Peoples Sidebar is great.
CONGRATZ!!!
Simply stunning! I've been using ever since 0.6 and it has come a looong way :O, i wasn't fully into the new look of 0.9, but now I'm really pleased with this release :), My World is now indeed pretty (but I'm looking forward my world, one you can customize :O).
Congratulations!!!!

Oh GOSH flock sucks i have been using flock 0.9 and now 1.0 for about two month since but now flock seem to not work on windows vista anymore whenever i use flock to watch videos ,the colours and grafic are very unsame.i have uninstall flock and use opera right now.i recommend that flock needs to come out a new version for widow's vista user.
This is all very interesting. I just downloaded it, and flock seems to work well. I'm probably not going to use it unless there is some demonstrable technical superiority (e.g. leaks less memory than firefox), as the social sites just distract me from getting work done.
Anyway, I have a question: how are you going to make money? How are you paying the developers? If you are not and it is all OSS, where is the source? It seems like the VC's are just throwing money away for the (hypothetical) good of the social-network crowd. Or, rather, you are indirectly funding the popularity of sites that flock makes it easy to get at. Are these sites (e.g. facebook) paying you? Wait -- flock allows you to look at content and not the ads. They are not paying you.
Perhaps you are moving along the lines of Opera, and intending to get people addicted to flock to a degree that they demand it on their mobile devices. Mobile devices are closed (for now .. check google), hence you can make money licensing software to phone manufacturers. I imagine that you'll have to rewrite the Mozilla core to do this (unless phones become significantly more powerful - not likely, they are battery devices. ) Mozilla is (L)GPL - you'll have to release the source. To the best of my knowledge, with non-physical goods money can only be made from gradients in knowledge (pun.. intended), therefore you will have to keep the source closed. If this is the case, you'll be able to make money (on this, i don't know what else you have planned) for a while, and when you can no longer, I hope you open the source like netscape.
Technically, though, excellent job! your website is also very pretty!
A worthy upgrade to replace lesser browsers!
End 6!
Great browser and extreme fast than FF and IE
Thanks to developers :)
